Every diet which claims to be superior simply changes your behaviour. For example, people tend to eat less calories when they cut a food group. This is why vegan, carnivores, paleo all work but are completely different.
We also eat less calories when we reduce the time we can eat which is why 5:2 and intermittent fasting works.
