Feeling good with too little effort destroys lives. 

 

Our “feel good” hormones are primarily reward based hormones. And they reward us, often not for an outcome, but for effort. 

 

This is because our survival throughout evolution has been based on repeated effort even in the face of adversity. Hence, working on a meaningful goal is a great way to feel good about ourselves. 

 

The issue is that we can feel good with the flick of a match (smoking), pop of a pill (medication or narcotics), a mouthful of food we haven’t had to prepare or gather (takeaway, chocolate etc).
