Tensing painful muscles can reduce pain. This is how

When we tense a muscle but the joint doesn’t move, it’s called an isometric contraction

Research has shown that these contractions can be very strong, with less pain and less inflammation. Hence why they find themselves into many of our patient rehabilitation programmes.
