From Boxing to Business: My Holistic Health Journey with Leon Charles
I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Leon Charles on the Mind Muscle Hustle podcast, and I have to say—it was one of the most enjoyable and insightful interviews I’ve ever done. Leon has a genuine talent for asking the right questions, digging into both the personal and professional, and creating space for honest reflection. Our conversation brought out elements of my journey that I haven’t had the chance to share before, and I’m excited to take you behind the scenes of my story.
I’m Elliott Reid—osteopath, personal trainer, acceptance commitment therapis, and founder of the Revitalize Clinic in Gravesend. My journey into health and healing has never been linear. It started in the boxing ring and took me through pain, depression, purpose, and eventually, into running a clinic that now supports over 15,000 people in becoming pain-free, mentally well, and physically fit.
My Lifelong Curiosity About the Human Experience
The first time I saw the power of osteopathy was after a boxing injury at 16. My mum took me to see an osteopath, and within days, I was back in the ring. That moment planted a seed. But even before that, I was reading books on the mind and body from the age of eight. I was obsessed with understanding how people function—physically, mentally, emotionally.
That obsession became a career. I’ve never stopped learning—adding qualifications in osteopathy, personal training, and psychotherapy to better understand the full human experience and support others more holistically.
From Massage on the Go to a Full-Service Clinic
During my first year at uni, I offered sports massage as a side hustle. Word spread quickly, and soon I was doing home visits, learning hands-on while studying in class. That experience taught me something crucial: if I wanted to grow, I had to understand not just treatment—but human behaviour and psychology.
I opened a small clinic, but it quickly became obvious that the model was fragmented. My trainers were in gyms, therapists in one location, and my own treatments in another. I knew we needed to be under one roof.
Fast forward to today, and our 1,800-square-foot clinic in Gravesend is buzzing—hosting up to 1,000 appointments a month. Every client who walks through our doors gets access to a team that truly works together.
My Team, My Tribe
What makes Revitalize special is our people. I’m lucky to work alongside clinicians who are as curious and committed as I am. Each of them is encouraged to find their niche—whether it’s paediatrics, cardiac rehab, stroke recovery—you name it. We’re not just offering services; we’re building mini-clinics within our clinic.
That means when a patient comes in, we don’t just look at their symptoms—we look at their life, their story, their goals.
My Philosophy on Pain and Healing
I don’t believe in the traditional, reductionist Western model that isolates symptoms from context. Pain isn’t just physical—it’s often psychological, social, emotional. At Revitalize, we follow a person-centred osteopathic approach. We explore the story behind the symptoms.
If your knee only hurts at work, but not on holiday—what’s the real issue? If your back flares up during stress—what’s your body trying to tell you? Using tools like Acceptance Commitment Therapy, we help clients find strength in their story and move forward with clarity.
Turning My Pain Into a Profession
I’ve battled my own demons. My years in boxing left me physically hardened but emotionally numb. Depression crept in, and I realised I needed help. Therapy changed my life. It also transformed how I work.
Now, I coach my team not just on treatment techniques—but on self-awareness, narrative psychology, and mindset. We don’t treat injuries; we help people rewrite their relationship with pain and growth.
The Flow State: What We’re All Searching For
One thing Leon and I discussed was flow—that beautiful state where everything just clicks. It’s something I seek in jiu-jitsu, in the clinic, and in life. Pain often interrupts flow, and our job is to help people reclaim it.
Pain is a signal, a defence mechanism. By building strength—physical, emotional, and mental—we help clients turn down that alarm and reconnect with what they love.
Discipline, Longevity, and Lifestyle
I don’t believe health is a given. It’s earned, daily. Many clients come to us feeling powerless—resigned to pain and decline. My job is to help them see the power of effort, consistency and discipline.
Personally, I follow a plant-based diet, train daily, and start every morning with stillness and intention. These practices keep me grounded and energised. They’re not about perfection; they’re about alignment with purpose.
Leading By Example
I’ve built Revitalize by living its values. Every win, every failure, every breakthrough—I’ve walked that path myself. I don’t preach anything I haven’t practised. That’s why our clinic feels like a community, not just a service.
We don’t just grow clients—we grow careers. Our staff stick around, not because they have to, but because they’re invested in something bigger. With fatherhood just around the corner, I’m clearer than ever on what matters most.
What’s Next? Clinics Across the UK
My dream is to bring the Revitalize Clinic model to every high street in the UK. Clinics run by passionate, empowered clinicians who treat people—not just problems. That’s the future I see. Not just for business—but for the health and vitality of our communities.
Because for me, it’s not just about relieving pain. It’s about guiding people back to themselves—mentally, physically and spiritually.
Huge thanks again to Leon Charles and the Mind Muscle Hustle podcast for the platform to share this journey.
