Why Labour’s obesity drug for the unemployed is missing the point entirely

 

You may have heard about labour’s latest plan.

Hunger suppression drugs will potentially be given to the unemployed.

It reminds me of the Buddhist saying; to paraphrase “observe the pointing finger and you’ll miss the moon entirely”. And it’s not just politicians who make this error. We do this all the time.

Obesity is incredibly predisposed by mental health, health education, social environments and illness. There is a lot below the metaphorical iceberg that’s tipped with illness.

And the strength loss experienced with rapid weight loss is debilitating in many ways.

In short, if you’re looking to make a significant health change, be compassionate to your entire self. Mind, body and spirit. And take them all towards health, on the journey to being your best possible self.
